Regarding one of Tolstoy’s most famous and frequently adapted works, Thomas Mann described it as the “greatest social novel” of all time. This masterpiece portrays the tragedy of a worldly woman who, in her quest to achieve happiness at any cost, ultimately collapses under the weight of a deceitful and hypocritical society. The contemporary stage adaptation by András Kozma, directed by Attila Keresztes, reinterprets the story through the lens of modern times, presenting the love story of the now “world-famous” young woman from a fresh perspective.
